![]() ![]() He chooses the Hotel de Verbier in the Swiss Alps as his sanctuary, a fancy luxury resort where hospitality comes above everything else. Though authors generally retreat from civilization in order to write (and get sucked into some form of horror story), Joel simply needs to rest. ![]() Not only has his longtime publisher recently passed away, but he has also recently suffered a breakup with a woman he loved dearly. This partially metafictional novel begins with Joel, who also happens to be Switzerland’s most prominent novelist, living in a world of trouble. In his latest novel, The Enigma of Room 622, Joel Dicker does his best to find that fabled refuge at a luxury resort in the Swiss Alps, but needless to say, nothing goes as planned for him. As much as the majority of us enjoy living in whatever environments we’ve made our existence in, there always comes a point where we yearn to break free and take refuge somewhere far off where nothing and nobody can interrupt our rest. ![]()

![]() ![]() Probably the best thing about the story is the ultimate twist at the end, which I do not want to spoil for you. It’s a story about letting go, being yourself, and knowing what’s right for you and the people you love. ![]() Twist! An editor that she had a bad run in with once is actually from this town, and in the process of providing her little sister with a good vacation, sparks start to fly with the editor. Her sister decides to take a vacation to the town where her favorite romance novel is set, and hopes that Nora will find her own small town romance away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The older sister Nora is a control freak who is always making sure that everyone under her care is ok, oftentimes at her own expense. Two sisters who lost their mother live in New York City. Perhaps this one would hook me where my first foray left me wanting. I read Emily Henry’s Beach Read and wasn’t completely bowled over, and I have her People We Meet on Vacation waiting for me in my office (I bought it during the pandemic and haven’t picked it up yet), but Book Lovers was her most recent and I was able to get it from the library. We’re separated by a massive island, but from the way her eyes are bugging out, you’d think I was holding matching cutlery against the jugular vein in her neck. ![]() ![]() Full disclosure, if I had been reading this story traditionally, rather than listening to the audiobook off and on during a road trip with my spouse, I likely would not have made it to the ending. ![]() Many of the discovery and analysis discussions made some scenes drag on, despite the fascinating subject matter. Taylor once again did his research to create this story, but unfortunately, he really wants to show all of that to the reader. ![]() All of these facets are intertwined, and we follow the original Bob and a few of his oldest clones as they pull together a plan to investigate this alien society. ![]() This story takes a lot of what I liked earlier in the series and (mostly) centers it on one focus: a new species, a fascinating bit of technology, and the mystery of a missing Bob. The Bobiverse and the rest of the sentient species in the galaxy may have destroyed one threat, but there’s lots of galaxy left to explore. The versions of Bob that we’re most familiar with are still dealing with the long-term effects of events in the previous books, up to and including experiencing various levels of post-traumatic stress disorder (though that’s never explicitly stated or explored). The previous three books in this series work as a complete trilogy, but life doesn’t stop when the curtain closes. ![]() ![]() ![]() The past of the states united is ugly, and most people are afraid to face that fact. ![]() The past has been hidden from the people of the land, with public school being the main culprit, manifestly, that’s their job. How exactly did the fraud happen? What should I do when a high wind warning is issued? Strong winds can also knock down trees, so it is also a good idea to check the trees on your property and ensure they are in good health. When she finds out that her new friends have misled her about the situation, her disappointment is palpable. Emily meets Stanford and assumes that he is tutoring Millie.
